T minus five
When to lock F1 fantasy picks: the five-minute rule
If you are still scrolling tyres when the formation lap starts, you are already locked out.
The cutoff
Grids and league entry close five minutes before the scheduled lights-out time. That is earlier than “when the anthem ends.” Set a phone alarm from the race page countdown, not from the TV build-up.
Once the cutoff hits, picks are frozen even if the start is delayed. Do not bank on a postponed lights-out to sneak a change.
What to decide on Saturday night
Podium shape after qualifying. Fastest-lap favourite from long-run data. Two DNF names. Sleep on it. Sunday morning is for weather and grid penalties, not for inventing a whole six.
If a driver takes a pit-lane start, update DNF and podium immediately. Those penalties post early enough that waiting until T-minus-six is how you miss the lock.
Checklist
Open the race, confirm six slots filled, confirm the league shows you in the field, then close the laptop. After that, watch the Grand Prix. If you want something to click, play Lights Out — it does not touch your locked team.
