Fastest lap in F1 fantasy: who actually takes it
Fastest lap is not a vibe. It is a free stop, a new tyre, and a driver who is still in the points fight.
Who is allowed to hunt it
The extra championship point for fastest lap only pays if the driver finishes in the top ten. Teams do not burn a set of softs from P14 just to steal a fantasy point. Your F1RaceDraft fastest-lap call should almost always be someone who will still be in that points train with ten laps to go.
The race leader is the obvious name and often the wrong one. The leader is managing a gap. The hunter is a teammate or a rival who pitted late, fitted the soft, and has clean air.
Read the pit window
If the race is a one-stop grind, fastest lap often falls to whoever stops last among the lead group. If it is a two-stop sprint, the car that takes a short final stint on the softest compound is the FL favourite.
Wet-to-dry races scramble everything. The first car onto slicks that isn’t in traffic can lay down a time nobody else matches. Have a wet name ready, but default to the dry favourite until the radar actually turns.
Lock it with the rest of the six
Fastest lap is one slot on your weekend team. It shares the same lock as podium and DNFs: five minutes before lights out. Pick it on the race weekend grid, then confirm you are in the Grand Prix league.
