How safety cars scramble F1 fantasy — and how to live with it
You cannot predict the marshal post. You can predict which tracks keep the crane busy.
P1 is sticky; the steps are not
A safety car bunches the field and turns tyre offsets into a lottery. The leader often stays the leader. Second and third swap with whoever pitted a lap earlier.
If you stacked both cars of one team on the podium, one crash in the pack can still leave you with a score. Two crashes in the same garage can wipe you.
DNFs love first-lap chaos
Turn one at Spa, Mexico, and Baku is where DNF picks earn their keep. You do not need a mechanical rumour. You need a first-lap funnel and a driver who starts in the dirty pack.
If nobody retires, F1RaceDraft still scores the last two classified cars as the DNF slots. A ‘wasted’ DNF pick is less wasted than an empty slot.
Do not chase the virtual safety car in real time
Once the grid is locked you are a spectator. Lights Out and Pit Stop exist so you do not sit there rewriting a team you cannot save. Watch the race. Score it after the flag.
